The Wollumbin Art Award

I am thrilled to be a finalist in this year's Wollumbin Art Award at The Tweed Regional Gallery, with my work:

My Artist Statement about this work:

I encountered this dog whilst attending an art residency in Romania.

In a country abounding with strays, it was penned. A guard dog in a timberyard, left there overnight to deter trespasses. Domesticated and feed but for utilitarian purpose, fenced in and alone. I couldn’t help but think the strays had a better existence, more precarious but free to roam.

I wanted to catch its taut attention, the way the white coat glowed up out of the darkness, for the paint to be vigorous and strong but also to catch this transitory moment of the dog in the night.
